About The Position

Meeru AI is building an AI-native platform that connects to enterprise financial systems and uses machine learning to turn fragmented operational data into grounded, auditable intelligence for finance leaders. The platform is deployed as multi-tenant SaaS, single-tenant SaaS, or on-premises across AWS, Azure, and GCP, serving Fortune 500 finance teams that require data isolation, auditability, and compliance.

The Staff Backend Engineer owns the application and API services through which the platform’s results reach users. This includes multi-tenant APIs, authentication and authorization, and finance review and approval workflows. The services must meet the correctness and auditability requirements of the computation layer while enforcing access control and tenancy guarantees. User actions and results must be traceable through an audit trail, including who approved what, when, and on the basis of which underlying result.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. The engineer owns major services end to end, establishes backend patterns alongside Senior Staff engineers, and partners with data, AI, and product teams on contracts between layers. The role is accountable for application and API services, tenancy and access control, and the audit trail; it does not own the core computation layer, data foundation, AI layer, or product prioritization.

Requirements

• Seven or more years in backend forward deployment engineering, including significant Staff-level experience owning complex production services and their failure modes.
• Demonstrated ownership of services in a multi-cloud SaaS environment and a clear account of how isolation was guaranteed.
• Strong commitment to correctness and traceability, treating who did what, when, and on what basis as a first-class requirement.
• Strong API and service design skills, including versioning, contracts, and backward compatibility; experience evolving interfaces used by other teams without breaking them.
• Practical security engineering experience with authentication, authorization, and tenant isolation.
• Python experience.
• Experience with FastAPI, Django, or Flask; PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Experience with REST API design, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Experience writing SQL against Snowflake or PostgreSQL.

Nice To Haves

• Finance, accounting, or fintech domain experience, or a genuine willingness to learn how financial statements are built and reconciled.
• Experience with multi-tenant, customer-hosted deployment at scale.
• Experience supporting SOC 2 or ISO 27001 review.
• Experience building auditable systems in a regulated environment.
• Exposure to ML or LLM application patterns sufficient to integrate them well.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-tenant APIs through which platform results are consumed; design service contracts with application, computation, data, and AI layers, and manage versioning so contracts can evolve without breaking consumers.
• Build review, approval, and exception-handling workflows for finance teams.
• Build and maintain multi-tenant isolation at the service layer, including authentication, authorization, and role-based access; make cross-tenant leakage impossible by construction.
• Build the audit trail, link user-facing figures to their computations and sources, and support enterprise security and compliance reviews.
• Build services for multi-cloud-ready, multi-tenant-ready, customer-hosted deployments with strong isolation and no data egress.
• Own service performance, reliability, cost, observability, and operational health.
• Establish backend patterns, review designs, mentor mid-level and senior engineers, and partner with data, AI, and product teams on cross-layer service design.
