Staff Backend and Test Engineering
About The Position
Lumentum is seeking a self-motivated, data-oriented Backend and Test Engineer based at its San Jose, Rose Orchard Fab. The role supports the High Power Laser business by handling UHP and HPL laser backend assembly, testing, and automated optical inspection (AOI) for new chip product introduction, production ramp, yield sustaining, and improvement in foundries. The engineer brings up assembly, test, and AOI equipment; analyzes test and process data to identify yield issues and opportunities; and works with product engineering and cross-functional teams to improve yield, product cost, and response to field failures. The role also includes material disposition and failure analysis for new product introduction, sustaining products, returns, and wafer acceptance testing.
Responsibilities
- Bring up UHP and HPL laser assembly, test, and AOI equipment to support production, yield improvement, and product cost reduction after production ramp from fabrication to final test.
- Perform statistical data analysis, correlation, and troubleshooting to identify potential root causes of yield excursions in fabrication using test data.
- Correlate process and product parameters to understand process and product margins and drive improvement.
- Use test data to detect fabrication excursions early, before products are sent to the assembly site.
- Work closely with product engineering to improve yield and reduce product cost after production ramp in foundries.
- Disposition engineering material, including at wafer acceptance test.
- Perform failure analysis for NPI and sustaining products and RMA.
- Coordinate with R&D, product engineering, process integration, and contract manufacturers; collect information to respond more quickly to customers about field failures.
