Staff Autonomy Safety Engineer - Robot Safety

1XSan Carlos, CA
$170,000 - $259,000Onsite

About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots designed to work in homes, handling chores and tasks to give people their time back. This requires solving robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, in a form factor that is safe for family environments. NEO is their flagship home robot, designed for real-world operation alongside people, and is currently being shipped. The company is scaling and hiring with intention, seeking individuals inspired by the mission to change how humans spend their time safely. The Autonomy & Safety Engineering team is responsible for ensuring 1X robots operate safely, reliably, and predictably in human environments. They work at the intersection of robotics, autonomy, controls, perception, and systems safety to develop frameworks, tooling, and validation methodologies for safe, large-scale robot deployment. This team is critical in defining how embodied AI systems safely interact with people, homes, and dynamic environments.
