About The Position

Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is seeking a Staff Attorney for its Monroe office, serving Monroe and Lenawee Counties. The role involves providing direct legal representation, advocacy, and impact work, with a focus on public benefits and related family, housing, and consumer law matters. LSSCM is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which has a long history of providing civil legal aid to those who cannot afford an attorney. MAP aims to increase access to justice and work towards systemic solutions for individuals affected by poverty, racism, and other oppressive systems. LSSCM has five offices across south and central Michigan, focusing on homelessness prevention, domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, and assistance with healthcare, food, and income programs. MAP also manages several statewide programs and has approximately 230 staff members across multiple locations.

Requirements

Licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam.
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations through lived or learned experience.
