Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a passionate and dedicated attorney to join our team as a Domestic Violence (VOCA) Staff Attorney in our Parkersburg office. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to use your legal skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence while promoting safety, family stability, housing security, and economic independence. Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in West Virginia and be in good standing or must be eligible for admission to the West Virginia Bar under West Virginia Supreme Court Rule 9 if admitted to practice in another state or must be eligible to take the next regularly scheduled West Virginia Bar Exam.
Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income and vulnerable populations.
Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to manage a diverse caseload while meeting deadlines.
Ability to work effectively with clients from varied backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities

Provide direct legal representation, advice, brief services, outreach, and community education primarily to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes.
Work closely with community partners, victim service providers, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, shelters, and advocacy organizations to ensure survivors receive comprehensive legal assistance.
Handle domestic violence protective orders and related proceedings.
Address family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, guardianship, and child support.
Manage housing matters affecting survivor safety and housing stability.
Assist with consumer, financial, and economic security issues impacting survivors.
Address public benefits and access-to-services issues.
Provide safety planning and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
Conduct community education and outreach regarding legal rights and available services.
Collaborate with domestic violence programs, law enforcement, courts, and community organizations.
Handle other civil legal matters consistent with funding requirements, office needs, and organizational priorities.
