About The Position

The Office of Legislative Legal Services (OLLS) is seeking full-time Staff Attorneys to serve the people of Colorado by helping the Colorado General Assembly provide effective representative government. The OLLS is the nonpartisan in-house counsel for the Colorado General Assembly, facilitating and supporting its legislative work and protecting its organizational interests. Responsibilities include drafting legislation for all 100 state legislators, conducting research, and providing legal advice to legislators and their staff. The office also publishes and annotates the Colorado Revised Statutes, reviews executive branch agency rules, reviews citizen-proposed laws, and provides public information related to the General Assembly's work.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Colorado or have a licensure application pending or submit an application for licensure within two weeks after starting, and be licensed within a year after starting.
  • At least three years of legal experience.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in supporting the work of representative government without being politically active.
  • Submit a resume, a writing sample (2-8 pages, demonstrating legal analysis), and a brief cover letter highlighting interest and relevant legislative experience.
  • Pass a basic criminal history record check.

Responsibilities
