About The Position

The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley is seeking a Staff Attorney to join their Children & Youth program. This program provides legal assistance to children and youth in various areas including juvenile dependency, family law, probate guardianship, immigration, and education. The role focuses on affirmative immigration relief, particularly Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), and involves partnering with a social worker to address client needs. The Law Foundation aims to advance the rights of historically excluded individuals and families through legal services, advocacy, and outreach, serving over 15,000 individuals annually.

Requirements

  • Current member in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Prior experience in immigration law.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple clients and deadlines, and make sound legal decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to travel within Santa Clara County to court hearings, USCIS interviews, schools, client homes, and other off-site meetings.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including use of standard office equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 or similar, with openness to learning new tools.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 or more years in immigration law practice.
  • Experience in courtroom advocacy.
  • Experience working with individuals from multiethnic communities and/or underserved communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-scope representation and advocacy to children and youth under 25 seeking affirmative immigration relief, with a focus on SIJS.
  • Advocate for clients in state probate and family court hearings and before USCIS.
  • Partner with a Children & Youth social worker to assess and address client needs.
  • Participate in regular Children & Youth team meetings, staff meetings, and program development activities.
  • Draft and file pleadings, briefs, and motions.
  • Handle case management tasks, including data entry, filing, copying, and service of notices.
  • Track time in the data management system.
  • Meet clients at various locations including the office, school, and their homes.
  • Support the Children & Youth Directing Attorney and Supervising Attorney as needed.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver seamless, people-centered services.
