About The Position

Staff Attorney II may either be a staff attorney for a clinical program or a free-standing program. Staff Attorneys working within a clinical program will have primary responsibility for cases not completed during a semester and for providing legal representation during the summer months or any other time that the College of Law is not in session. Staff Attorneys for free standing programs will have primary responsibility for a reasonable case load related to their particular grant. Staff Attorneys must maintain data regarding outcomes and monitoring for grant reporting.

Requirements

  • For non-immigration based positions: working knowledge of Oklahoma law and procedure.
  • For immigration based positions: In depth knowledge of immigration law, especially humanitarian and family-based cases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and case management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent Legal research and writing skills.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge and adherence to the rules of professional responsibility.
  • Juris Doctorate.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience required.
  • Multi-cultural lawyering with inherent bias-awareness required.
  • For non-immigration related positions: Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.
  • For immigration related positions: Must be licensed to practice law in any state, preference for Oklahoma.

  • Fluent in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing program case dockets.
  • Managing intake call process for potential new clients.
  • Performing legal consultations for potential new clients.
  • Representing legal clinic clients.
  • Maintaining client communications, verbal and written.
  • Drafting motions/petitions/briefs/memos.
  • Appearing on behalf of clients in court hearings and proceedings.
  • Supervising legal fellows in direct representation and community outreach tasks.
  • Supervising case work of students in clinical programs (including new students and advanced students).
  • Drafting grant applications and reports for program funding.
  • Communicating with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Providing community education to populations served.
