The Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, Inc. (PBRC) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and bright attorney who is fluent in Spanish to join the Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project. This role aims to increase access to PBRC’s immigration legal services for individuals who are detained or at risk of detention. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced setting, offering on-the-spot brief legal advice related to immigration cases, and mentoring volunteers unfamiliar with immigration law. The position will also provide direct limited-scope legal services focused on preventing detention (e.g., letters explaining equities/need to remain in the community) or collaborating on habeas petitions. The role requires ready access to transportation to downtown Baltimore, with a primary focus on individuals held at the Baltimore Hold Room and potentially drafting habeas requests. Depending on policy changes, travel to other detention areas in Maryland may be necessary. The selected individual will also conduct regular in-person clinic days for detention prevention services for those checking in with ICE, up to two days per week. Mentorship and training will be provided.
