About The Position

Clover, a Fiserv company, is building AI that acts on live merchant data at enterprise scale. In this role, you will be a hands-on technical leader for applied AI on the Point of Sale platform. You will define the architecture for AI across inventory, menu, and ordering, building the systems that modernize how merchants run their business.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years in professional software development, including 3+ years leading complex production systems through to deployment.
Strong software engineering foundations in algorithms, data structures, Kubernetes, REST APIs, and microservices.
Dual-language fluency in Python and a JVM language (Java, Kotlin, or Scala), alongside experience with SQL (MySQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), and vector databases.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills to perform root-cause analysis on non-deterministic systems.
Production ownership of action-oriented LLM systems writing to a system of record with real users.
Hands-on expertise in evaluation-driven development (behavioral contracts, eval-gated releases) and live AI systems operations (tracing, rate limits, latency/cost budgets, live monitoring).
Strong risk judgment regarding blast radius, prompt injection, and security/privacy when AI writes to persistent databases.
Demonstrated fluency with agentic coding workflows (steering tools with specs and verifiers), strong product judgment, and cross-team influence.

Nice To Haves

Production experience with Gemini and Vertex AI, or other model families (Claude, GPT, Llama).
Multi-agent orchestration experience (coordination, handoffs, failure containment, MCP).
Advanced retrieval depth (RAG over structured records) and Document AI (extraction from PDFs/images).
Experience with Spring Boot, agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex), and BDD/TDD development practices.
Domain knowledge in POS, restaurant, or retail systems, along with menu or catalog data models.
Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

Own and drive end-to-end technical architecture, design, implementation, testing, and deployment across the applied AI portfolio while contributing to the overall AI strategy and roadmap.
Design safe tool layers (change proposals, permissions, rollback, audit) and advanced retrieval layers (RAG) that keep agent outputs grounded in real-time merchant data.
Define behavioral contracts, build eval harnesses to gate releases on empirical evidence, and engineer decision layers for trustworthy, actionable merchant recommendations.
Develop multimodal ingestion pipelines to convert photos, PDFs, and spreadsheets into canonical data with merchant review workflows where required.
Instrument, operate, and maintain on-call ownership for production systems, managing tracing, cost budgets, and live quality monitoring.
Extend the shared multi-agent framework, contribute upstream, leverage agentic coding tools, mentor engineers, and establish reusable AI patterns and guardrails across teams.
