Role : As an AI/ML Engineer in the AI Research organization, you will be advancing the frontier of machine learning to solve challenging problems in autonomous driving. You will implement and experiment with state-of-the-art algorithms that open new possibilities for our vehicles. You will contribute to GM’s autonomous vehicles platform and co-author publications at top conferences. About the Organization : The AI Research team advances the state-of-the-art in AI for autonomous vehicles. We research, design, and prototype advanced AI/ML techniques (e.g., foundation models, VLAs, diffusion, image/video generation, self-supervised learning, IL, RL) that help our vehicles unlock new autonomous capabilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and PyTorch with an ability to produce high-quality, production-ready code.
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to real-world systems or large-scale datasets.
  • Experience working with model training pipelines or large-scale data processing workflows.
  • Proficiency with ML building blocks (eg MLPs, transformers, loss functions).
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience publishing AI/ML research in top conferences
  • AV/ADAS experience
  • Experience productionizing reinforcement learning training pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and prototype advanced ML approaches (e.g., foundation models, diffusion, image/video generation, self-supervised learning, IL, RL) to advance the state-of-the-art in autonomous driving.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering groups, helping foster ML innovation across teams.
  • Represent GM externally through publications, patents, and participation in top conferences.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, technical discussions, and academic literature review to support engineering quality and knowledge sharing.
