Staff AI Engineer

Twin Health
$250,000 - $265,000Remote

About The Position

We are seeking a Staff AI Engineer to join our Core AI team to shape the technical direction of our AI-driven product using the latest techniques in Gen AI, AI agents, and deep learning. This is powered by our Digital Twin AI, which combines Predictive and Generative AI to provide individualized insights and recommendations that improve the health of our members every day. This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who wants to solve hard, ambiguous problems at the system level — not just within a single feature, but across the architecture, tooling, and standards that the whole Core AI team relies on. You'll set technical direction across multiple AI products, mentor senior engineers, and be the person others turn to when a problem doesn't have an obvious owner.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of industry experience developing AI and Machine Learning systems in production, with a track record of leading technical initiatives that span multiple teams or systems.
  • Deep software engineering fundamentals: testing, CI/CD, system design, code review — with demonstrated experience designing evaluation infrastructure and shared tooling for LLM-based systems, not just using it.
  • Proven experience setting technical direction and engineering standards at an organizational level, not just within a single team or codebase.
  • Experience creating and scaling applications leveraging LLMs, Generative AI, advanced Prompt Engineering, RAG, and iterative AI evals in production.
  • Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical decisions beyond your own project.
  • Proficiency in Python and software engineering best practices at a level where you're often the one defining what "best practice" means for the team.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Voice AI or specialized Language Models (VLMs, multi-modal, etc.) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the core architecture for AI systems spanning multiple product areas, ensuring coherence and reuse across different applications.
  • Set the technical bar for the org: evaluation frameworks, testing philosophy, CI/CD for model behavior, and shared infrastructure used across multiple teams.
  • Identify and resolve systemic engineering gaps before they become team-wide problems — proactively, not just in response to escalations.
  • Take direct ownership of the hardest, most ambiguous technical problems on the team — the ones without an established playbook — and build the solution end-to-end.
  • Build and ship conversational agents, deep learning models, and personalization systems that require novel technical approaches.
  • Improve AI/ML systems and services to drive behavior change and sustained metabolic health improvements across our member base.
  • Raise the technical level of the team through code review and design review — this is IC technical leadership, not people management. You will not have direct reports.
  • Partner with product, engineering leadership, and clinical/research teams to turn ambiguous goals into technical designs you then build.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • A competitive compensation package in line with leading technology companies
  • A remote and accomplished global team
  • Opportunity for equity participation
  • Unlimited vacation with manager approval
  • 16 weeks of 100% paid parental leave for delivering parents
  • 8 weeks of 100% paid parental leave for non-delivering parents
  • 100% Employer sponsored healthcare, dental, and vision for you, and 80% coverage for your family
  • Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account options
  • 401k retirement savings plan
