Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an accounting position.
  • A strong dedication to cultural competency that creates conditions that remove barriers and increase a sense of belonging.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively across an organization.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work and some travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a non-profit organization or with government contracts a big plus.
  • Experience with MIP (Sage) and Concur a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly or annual government contract invoices in accordance with contract terms and deadlines.
  • Verify contract specific cost allocations and review GL coding for accuracy, correcting or removing unallowable expenses as needed.
  • Collaborate within Finance and with other departments to correct coding of both revenue and expense.
  • Ensure all appropriate backing documentation for each invoice is in place.
  • Process entries to record revenue in the accounting system, reconcile balances (current month and year-to-date) to the general ledger monthly.
  • Ensure correct accounting for revenue including calculation of year-end accounts receivable and deferred revenue.
  • Update contract tracking spreadsheet with actual or estimated invoice amounts; coordinate with program managers on spending and answer questions about amounts remaining on individual contract lines.
  • Provide support for preparation of the monthly payroll allocations and associated journal entries.
  • Provide support for the preparation of the monthly overhead allocation tables.
  • Collaborate within Finance and other departments to make sure that allocations are correctly updated each month and reflect the most current organization headcount and structure.
  • Support the preparation of the monthly schedule of net assets.
  • Record all new restricted donations for the month and ensure we have procedures in place to capture all related spend.
  • Record any releases to net assets during the month and monitor all balances to ensure we are spending down appropriately.
  • Assist with requests from Development for restricted grant reports.
  • Assist with the preparation for the fiscal and government contract audits including preparation of audit schedules and collection of supporting documentation.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as needed.
  • Act as back up for other members of the Finance team as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
