About The Position

The Staff Accountant supports the company’s growing accounting and financial reporting needs by owning day-to-day accounting activities and helping bring core accounting work in-house. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely month-end and year-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. The Staff Accountant works closely with the VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer in a lean finance function, partners with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting matters, and contributes to process improvements that strengthen efficiency and internal controls as the business scales.

Requirements

  • 2–3+ years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Hands-on exposure to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, and close processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel and experience working with accounting systems.
  • Apply GAAP consistently and adhere to established accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in writing, over video, and in cross-functional discussions.
  • Work independently, meet deadlines consistently, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Operate effectively in a home-based, remote work environment.
  • Contribute thoughtfully to a collaborative, improvement-oriented finance culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with accounting tools such as Zoho, QuickBooks, Bill.com, or Ramp is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
  • Perform timely and accurate balance sheet account reconciliations with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Manage customer invoicing, apply payments, monitor AR aging, and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Process vendor invoices, execute payments, and manage vendor onboarding and maintenance.
  • Record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation and amortization as applicable.
  • Assist with sales tax, payroll tax, and other statutory or compliance-related filings.
  • Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for internal and external audits.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes, documentation, and controls to support scalability and accuracy.
