About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily accounting and financial reporting functions of a fire and life safety organization. This role ensures accurate financial records, supports month‑end close, assists with job costing, and helps maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a service‑based or construction‑related industry.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fire protection, construction, mechanical, or field ‑ service environments.
  • Familiarity with job costing, WIP, and contract ‑ based accounting.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems used in service or project ‑ driven organizations.
  • Exposure to multi ‑ location or growth ‑ oriented businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries.
  • Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
  • Maintain general ledger account integrity and supporting documentation.
  • Support job costing activities for installation, service, and inspection work.
  • Track labor, materials, and expenses by job or contract.
  • Assist with work‑in‑progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition, as applicable.
  • Collaborate with operations and project teams to resolve job cost discrepancies.
  • Prepare standard financial reports and schedules for management review.
  • Assist with variance analysis and financial trend reporting.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes as assigned.
  • Provide audit support and documentation as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting controls, and audit requirements.
  • Assist with sales tax, use tax, and other regulatory reporting as required.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and controls.
  • Support system implementations or upgrades related to accounting and operations.
  • Perform additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
