About The Position

Up to Par Management and Taylor Hospitality, a growing portfolio of hotels, resorts, private clubs, and hospitality venues, is seeking a Staff Accountant for their corporate team. This role offers hands-on experience in multi-property hotel and hospitality accounting, mentorship from finance leaders, and a clear career path. The company is experiencing significant growth and is building its accounting team to support this expansion. The position is based on-site in the Charlottesville / Waynesboro, Virginia area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, bookkeeping, journal entries, account reconciliation, and the full month-end close cycle.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP, SUMIFS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain variances to non-accountants.
  • Sharp attention to detail; comfortable juggling multiple property entities and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Hotel accounting, resort accounting, club accounting, or restaurant / F&B accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with hospitality accounting platforms — M3 Accounting Core, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Aptech ProfitSage, or similar.
  • CPA, CPA candidate, or actively pursuing CPA licensure (company will provide support).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements — balance sheet, P&L, and membership financials — across the hotel, hospitality, and club portfolio.
  • Lead monthly financial review meetings with property-level clients, explaining variances, the story behind the numbers, and recommending solutions.
  • Record and post journal entries from invoices, cash receipts, supplier invoices, and bank activity into the general ledger.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, intercompany entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and operating expenses against prior year and budget, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop, document, and train scalable accounting processes that grow with the portfolio.
  • Partner with operations, F&B, rooms, and club department heads to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support audit preparation, year-end close, and ad-hoc finance projects.
