Wallace is a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center dedicated to improving community health outcomes. The Staff Accountant will work closely with and under the direction of the Accounting Manager, applying not-for-profit generally accepted accounting principles to prepare financial statements, board reports, and support the CFO. This role involves managing day-to-day accounting functions, grant tracking, reporting, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • High attention to detail
  • Basic data entry experience
  • Intermediate experience with Excel
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Proven experience in healthcare billing
  • Sound knowledge of health insurance providers
  • Maintain patient confidentiality always
  • Must possess strict integrity in the handling and maintenance of confidential information using sound judgement in communications containing confidential information
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check specific to the position applied for
  • Associate degree in accounting plus 4 years’ experience required
  • Minimum 2-4 years of accounting experience
  • Experience with accrual accounting and month end financial statement preparation, required
  • Must have Advanced Excel skills
  • Must have prior experience using accounting software
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work independently
  • Proven ability to use critical and analytical thinking
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, advanced proficiency in Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • CPA or master’s degree a plus
  • preferable in a medical and/or non-profit environment
  • Revenue Cycle management experience a plus
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, a plus
  • Non-profit experience, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manages the General Ledger (GL) and the GL Chart of Accounts
  • Completes the month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensures timely monthly closing, including account reconciliation, journal entry preparation and monthly management reports (other external reports as needed)
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements for board presentation
  • Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information
  • Assist in maintaining the asset list
  • Assists with grant tracking, recording, reporting and compliance
  • Assists the Accounting Manager to complete annual federal and state compliance reports
  • Assist with annual audits performed by external auditors, compiling required information and documentation
  • Assists Data Manager with annual Uniform Data Systems reporting
  • Update and manage reports utilizing Excel
  • Cross-trains all areas of the finance team and accounting functions
  • Assists with any financial software conversion
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Update policies and procedures as needed
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Comply with all applicable laws and fully cooperate with the Wallace Compliance program
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
