About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting all accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliation functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position prepares monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts, researches and resolves discrepancies and variances, and prepares and posts journal entries. The Staff Accountant compiles financial data and generates reports for internal stakeholders, grant-funded programs, and external funding sources. This role also serves as a key liaison during audits by working with external auditors, assisting with agency audit activities, and preparing assigned audit schedules and supporting documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of AA/BA in Accounting required.
  • 2+ years of related experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure that journal entries are accurate and recorded in a timely manner.
  • Post transactions such as payroll, expenses, and revenue into the accounting system.
  • Process invoices and ensure payments are made to vendors in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection of payments.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Track actual expenses and compare them with the budget, identifying variances.
  • Assist in preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
  • Maintain records for tax audits and handle basic tax-related inquiries.
  • Help implement and monitor internal controls to ensure accuracy and security of financial records.
