About The Position

The Staff Accountant maintains, records, and analyzes financial transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Core duties include preparing journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, and assisting with month-end close. The Staff Accountant will contribute with the preparation of financial statements including research and resolution of financial discrepancies. The Staff Accountant will support the overall accounting operations of Wilson Lumber Company and any other related entities.

Requirements

  • Experience in various accounting roles, preferably in a lumber and/or manufacturing business environment
  • Experience in the preparation of journal entries, general ledger and bank account reconciliations
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven experience in contributing to the overall success of an accounting team
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various accounting software systems.
  • Ability to speak English fluently
  • Previous practical experience in various accounting roles preferably in a lumber and/or manufacturing business
  • Proven experience in communicating with stakeholders and contributing to the overall success of an accounting team
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various accounting software and accounting concepts
  • Previous experience in the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Epicor BisTrack or other LBM, Distribution or ERP systems a plus

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile bank accounts
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner to assist with month-end close
  • Prepare general ledger entries while maintaining sufficient support and documentation
  • Research irregularities or discrepancies in a timely manner to aid in providing accurate financial reporting
  • Assist with tax and other business compliance filings in an accurate and timely manner
  • Prepare documentation and support for external accountants/auditors as required
  • Analyze data and information using accounting software, ERP systems, Excel and other applications to assist in providing recommendations to management and leadership
  • Assist with the annual budget, as needed
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Prepares general ledger entries while maintaining sufficient support and documentation
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner to assist with month- end close
  • Reconcile bank accounts as needed
  • Research irregularities or discrepancies in a timely manner to aid in providing accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain the appropriate financial reports to include balance sheets and income statements for various entities associated with Wilson Lumber Company
  • Assist with annual budgeting and budgeting updates as needed
  • Complete tax filings and other business filings in an accurate and timely manner
  • Process accounts payable as needed
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures as needed while also providing recommendations for changes to current accounting procedures
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Provide financial and accounting support for various projects which may include mergers and acquisitions, new business units, business restructuring, or other projects as requested by management
