About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the monthly close process and maintaining accurate financial records through journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and financial analysis. This role works closely with the National Accounting and Purchasing Administration (NAPA) team and division partners to ensure timely, complete, and compliant financial reporting. A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of non–lot level accounting, proactively identify and resolve non-lot staging discrepancies, and contribute to the integrity of financial data used for reporting and decision-making. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • At least one year of full-cycle accounting experience
  • Strong experience in reading, analyzing and reconciling financial reports
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and solid understanding of accounting concepts and financial controls.
  • Must possess good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions; proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working in ERP systems and leveraging system data for reporting, analysis, and reconciliation.
  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership; consistently performs self-review and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with NAPA, division teams, and management. Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a collectively responsible team

Responsibilities

  • Clear and reconcile all intercompany transactions with Corporate, including legal expenses, wire fundings, bank deposits, insurance and benefit allocations, marketing and advertising costs paid on behalf of the division, professional services, phone and data processing costs, and division-level corporate allocations.
  • Serve as the primary owner of Sales journal entries and the HUD/Cost of Sales (COS) process; perform initial review for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company policy, coordinate with DUP, ensure all closed homes are recorded monthly, and confirm lot accruals are booked for lot financial analysis reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Joint Ventures, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, and accrued expenses; ensure all reconciling items are properly documented and resolved.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc monthly journal entries required for close, including model and fixed asset depreciation, vacation accruals, interest expense, property tax accruals, rebate estimates and adjustments, and balance sheet reclassifications.
  • Prepare Excel-based schedules for the monthly Financial Statement Package (excluding inventory schedules), ensuring completeness and accuracy; assemble and finalize the financial statement package.
  • Respond to periodic and ad hoc requests, including tax package schedules, property tax payments, audit support, quarterly variance analyses for Corporate, segment variance analysis, and uploading check requests.
  • Prepare additional monthly and quarterly schedules as needed, including closed homes to Schedule 35 reconciliations, inventory summaries, warranty analysis, and quarterly certification schedules.
