About The Position

Provides expertise and support to the organization regarding accounting procedures and processes. Understands and manages the accounting of fixed assets, capital expenditures (capex) and leases. Assists with key sections of external audits and reporting requirements to outside agencies. Provides leadership and guidance to YMCA branch business employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Two or more years of experience in accounting for fixed assets.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Accounting and Financial software systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet firm deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the accounting for fixed assets, capital projects, capital and operating leases and depreciation, including accounting for new building construction.
  • Identifies areas for improvement within processes, particularly with fixed assets and capital projects, executes new strategies to gain efficiency.
  • Responsible for proper asset tracking within our fixed asset software. Work with risk management regularly to assure both department reporting needs are met.
  • Conducts inventory audits with branches.
  • Oversees annual renewal and registration of fleet vehicles.
  • Prepares and files federal, state, and local tax and regulatory filings (e.g., property tax, sales and use tax, census reports, and surveys).
  • Provides budget support as needed, particularly with allocation schedules.
  • Works with the capex team to prepare the annual capex budget. Report on progress and assess variances throughout the year.
  • Reviews and enters journal entries for the department.
  • Enters accounts receivable entries already reviewed by the Director of Grants and Contracts.
  • Assists with month- and year-end closings as needed.
  • Provides support with assigned sections of the annual audit, including selected roll-forward schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.
