About The Position

Duties for this position consist of processing vendor payments and accounting journals utilizing MaineDOT's and the State of Maine's accounting systems. This position will be responsible for coordinating collections for accident-related damage to MaineDOT assets by tracking the accident information, creating invoices, processing related payments, and working with insurance companies and our Legal Department. Other responsibilities will include consulting and conferring with other accountants and professionals in order to provide technical accounting advice and guidance, and reconciling internal accounting records with computerized/central accounting records to review and verify the correctness and classification of transactions posted to accounting journals, general ledger accounts, and other subsidiary records in order to ensure accuracy and balance accounts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • Knowledge of standardized desktop technology and products.
  • Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to account for revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Education, training, and/or experience in accounting, business administration, financial planning, budgeting, or another related field demonstrating competency in analyzing data and records, interpreting policies, rules, and laws, identifying process and procedure deficiencies, and developing practical solutions.
