About The Position

Position Overview RMI is seeking a Staff Accountant in the greater Denver/Boulder, Colorado area who will serve a key support role on the Organizational Finance team and across the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Controller and working closely with other RMI staff in operations and programs, you will be the go-to person for journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 1-3+ years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Detail and service oriented with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, highly motivated, and flexible with changing deadlines and workloads
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
  • Experience using Workday or similar accounting system

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting

Responsibilities

  • Prepare periodic and monthly journal entries
  • Manage the fixed asset and prepaid expenses schedules
  • Assist with monthly reclass process
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Reconcile bank statements monthly
  • Ensure accuracy of the general ledger
  • Assist with monthly financial close process
  • Suggest and implement process improvements
  • Assist and/or act as back up to all core accounting functions as needed including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and Payroll
  • Assist during various audits including but not limited to preparing documentation for auditors
  • Support for any accounting related questions from internal and external constituents
  • Backup to all Assistant Controller responsibilities
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff
  • Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment
  • Assist with state compliance and reporting requirements, as needed
  • Additional responsibilities, as required
  • Maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls and procedures
