About The Position

The Staff Accountant will record membership fees, program revenue, camp revenue, and retail revenue monthly. They will perform inventory analyses and prepare related journal entries monthly. This role is also responsible for preparing sales tax reports for State & County agencies. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will assist with gift and grant accounting and analysis as requested, ensuring proper recording, monitoring, and reporting to project managers and donors. The position involves performing monthly bank reconciliations and preparing related journal entries, as well as recording investment income and reconciling investment accounts monthly. The Staff Accountant will record cash receipts when the Accounting Assistant is not available and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and analysis for assigned areas on a timely basis. This role will also prepare assigned financial audit and Form 990 schedules. The Staff Accountant will ensure routine correspondence and questions are handled accurately, courteously, and promptly. They will work both individually and on cross-functional teams to improve financial processes and support other Finance team members as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and current accounting rules and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to identify, research, and propose solutions to emerging issues.
  • Proficiency in current versions of Windows and Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate work progress effectively and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum one year of accounting or financial analysis experience.
  • B.A. or B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting, or acceptable substitute.

Nice To Haves

  • Nonprofit experience a plus.
  • MIP Fund Accounting experience highly desirable.
