Serves as a technical advisor to the Supervisor of an Accounting section and in this capacity coordinates the accounting functions for the Navy Exchange Program Military Sealift Command and Navy Lodging and NGIS Programs. The incumbent operates independently within the framework of established procedures and regulatory guides, with work reviewed for overall efficiency. This role is responsible for the maintenance and analysis of General and Subsidiary Ledgers, setting up books of accounts, and controlling depreciation of equipment, buildings and building improvements for Navy Exchanges, Navy Lodging and/or NGIS locations. The position also involves controlling year-end retail inventories, recording physical inventory adjustments, overages and shortages, recording interest earned on investment portfolios, and assisting with coordination with Certified Public Accountants for interim and year-end audits. Additionally, the Staff Accountant participates in the preparation of monthly consolidated Financial Statements for NEXCOM business lines and assists in the development and monitoring of accounting systems to ensure compliance with current retail and hospitality accounting practices.
