About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing support in preparing, developing, and maintaining accurate and timely financial reports, records and general ledgers in accordance with US GAAP for Red Wing Shoe Company, as assigned. The Staff Accountant responsibilities include processing general ledger journal entries; preforming monthly reconciliations; and reviewing monthly operating expenses and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university, preferred, and two to five years related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP and accounting practices
  • Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word and other Microsoft Suite tools.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and use multiple systems and applications.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and understanding of operations and accounting transactions including point-of-sale systems is preferred.
  • Experience with inventory, payroll, general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems, such as ERP systems and retail transaction platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the month end close process, including preparing relevant journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and account analysis or period over period account fluctuations.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and maintain monthly reconciliations.
  • Participation in annual audits, including the compilation and preparation of supporting schedules, work papers, and financial reports related to areas of responsibility.
  • Identify, analyze, and contribute to process and system improvements.
  • Perform all job duties while maintaining compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements including, but not limited to US GAAP and IRS
  • Supports operational accounting projects and processes within the Corporate Accounting department.
  • Interacts with operations to understand business initiatives and their respective impact to accounting and controls.
