This full-time position is a key member of the Accounting team, reporting to the Controller. The role is primarily responsible for weekly payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, and multi-state regulatory requirements, while supporting broader accounting operations. This position is one of three core accounting roles designed with cross-training across general ledger, accounts payable, and compliance functions to ensure redundancy and operational flexibility. The ideal candidate combines strong payroll expertise with a working knowledge of general accounting processes, including month-end close, benefits accounting, and multi-state compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field)
  • 3+ years of payroll experience including multi-state payroll processing
  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes and compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Construction or project-based accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE, HH2, or similar systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees across multiple projects and locations
  • Review and verify timecards for accuracy and completeness
  • Calculate wages, deductions, and adjustments including benefits and garnishments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Prepare, review, and file all payroll tax filings
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
  • Support audits and ensure accurate accruals and reporting
  • Maintain business and contractor licensing across municipalities and states
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and supporting schedules
  • Assist with month-end close activities including payroll and benefits accruals
  • Support accounts payable entry and general accounting tasks as needed
  • Respond to employee and project team payroll inquiries
  • Partner with HR to validate benefit deductions and employee data
  • Cross-train in key accounting functions to support team continuity
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
