About The Position

The Staff Accountant (CPA Student Welcome) supports the daily financial and accounting operations of JM Controls & Electric and related entities. Working closely with the Controller and Finance team, this role contributes to financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close activities, budgeting support, and operational accounting processes. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a CPA student or accounting professional seeking hands-on experience across multiple areas of accounting and finance within a growing organization. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated to develop their accounting career while supporting the financial success of the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Must be able to work full-time in the Chatham office
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information

Nice To Haves

  • CPA student enrolled in or actively pursuing the CPA designation preferred
  • 1–5 years of accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing, project-based, construction, or multi-entity environments considered an asset
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, Service Fusion, or similar accounting software preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments
  • Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Analyze financial information and identify unusual variances or trends
  • Prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations for management reporting
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as required
  • Assist with vendor reconciliations and customer account reviews
  • Review invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy
  • Assist in monitoring outstanding receivables and resolving discrepancies
  • Assist with inventory accounting, costing, and reconciliation activities
  • Support inventory control processes and inventory-related reporting
  • Partner with Operations and Purchasing teams to ensure financial accuracy
  • Assist with project costing and operational analysis as required
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and supporting documentation
  • Support compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and financial system enhancements
  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned
