About The Position

As a reporting department to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller’s Department is a team of dedicated professionals who ensure the accuracy of the Port Authority’s finances. As part of the Comptroller’s Department team, the Staff Accountant helps make sure the Port Commerce revenues are accurately recorded throughout the year. This role is part of the Revenue Accounting team and works closely with other departments and external parties to review and reconcile revenue activity. It is a good fit for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work and solving problems. The work done in this role supports month-end closing and helps ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Corporate Finance from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience. In lieu of bachelor’s degree a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience can be accepted.
  • Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Interpretation, review and SAP approval of Port Commerce leases with fixed and percentage fee provisions and various other Port Commerce related revenues such as dockage/wharfage and Cargo Facility Charges
  • Updating Consumer Price Index tables for rent escalations for fixed rent roll monthly
  • Preparing journal entries for month-end closing
  • Preparing monthly, semi-annual and year-end revenue variance analyses
  • Helping Properties staff in resolving billing discrepancies and tenant inquiries
  • Completing special project assignments as required
