About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of Red Monkey Foods by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and assisting with financial reporting. This role is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close activities while maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement are valued.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience performing balance sheet reconciliations and month-end close activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience preferred).
  • Experience with payroll processing software (ADP experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting principles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items promptly.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Support preparation of internal financial reports and schedules.
  • Assist with annual financial audits and provide supporting documentation as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Process vendor invoices accurately and timely.
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documentation.
  • Prepare weekly payment runs, including ACH, wire transfers, and checks.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor files and ensure proper documentation for all payments.
  • Generate customer invoices and process customer payments.
  • Apply cash receipts accurately.
  • Monitor customer accounts for outstanding balances.
  • Assist in collection efforts and resolve customer billing discrepancies.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable balances.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Review payroll data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with payroll tax reporting and payroll-related reconciliations.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources regarding employee changes impacting payroll.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and payroll information.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance department.
  • Support inventory accounting activities, including inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventories, and investigation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Assist with analysis of manufacturing costs, including materials, labor, overhead, scrap, and other production-related expenses.
  • Review and analyze production and inventory variances and work with Operations to identify and resolve significant discrepancies.
  • Support the maintenance and review of standard costs, bills of material, and other cost-related ERP data.
  • Prepare operational financial reports and analyses to help management understand manufacturing performance and cost trends.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and other departments to investigate unusual transactions, inventory movements, and cost variances.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting capital expenditures and fixed assets, including additions, disposals, and project spending.
  • Participate in physical inventory and cycle count activities and ensure appropriate accounting adjustments and supporting documentation are completed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and data accuracy across manufacturing operations.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for operational improvement initiatives and other business decisions as requested.
