Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location. What your job will be like: Exercising considerable latitude in determining methods and approach, designs, develops, and tests Superconducting and Normal Conducting Radio Frequency (SRF/NCRF) Cavities and their RF systems that service to major Jefferson Lab milestones, including the CEBAF, Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) project, and various SRF/RF programs. Conducts the R&Ds, cavity-beam interactions studies, RF structure impedance calculation, application high-performance computing and machine learning (ML) to SRF/RF cavity system optimization, exploration of new materials and technologies of special interest in the field of accelerator RF system. Leads the prototype and production works of cavity and RF system components, participates in RF measurements and help translate cutting-edge SRF/RF technology into impactful solutions for the material science, industrial, and medical sectors.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years Relevant Experience
  • Ph.D. Physics
  • Previous knowledge of beam physics, accelerator engineering, the SRF/RF technologies.
  • Knowledge of high performance computing on super computers, Python/C++, version control, machine learning.
  • To be able to use the accelerator cavity design tools like CST and some common accelerator beam physics simulation codes, able to do coding for data processing and physics concept verification.
  • Knowledge of RF measurements and accelerator experiments.
  • Abilities to analyze the complex simulated and experimental data

Responsibilities

  • Translate accelerator physics goals into system requirements, performs electromagnetic design of SRF/RF cavity systems while providing dedicated support for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and other Jefferson Lab projects
  • Leads, participates and interfaces with engineering teams for the prototyping, testing, and RF measurement of cryomodules, RF cavities and components like RF window, HOM loads, etc.
  • Assist CEBAF operation performance improvement, perform the R&Ds of present and future JLab projects and assist the technology development/transfer program for accelerators for industrial applications
  • Leverages the emerging new computer science technologies for advanced design and simulation of SRF/RF systems for high-performance, high-reliability, and efficient operation of accelerators.
  • Initiates internally, such as LDRD, and externally funded project proposals that support maintaining the lab's core competence in SRF/RF technology while ensuring alignment with the department and division priorities.
