SRE - Resident Engineer

About The Position

This role is for an SRE - Resident Engineer with a strong background in cloud-native technologies, particularly AKS, Kubernetes, and EKS. The ideal candidate will have experience managing multi-region clusters for disaster recovery and a solid understanding of the AWS stack. They should be proficient in coding/programming and have experience with programmable infrastructure, including building CI/CD pipelines, provisioning infrastructure programmatically, or setting up monitoring and logging for large systems. A passion for automation, a deep understanding of high availability and resilient systems, and a desire to coach others are essential. The position involves working with customers to transform applications and adopt cloud-native technologies, utilizing tools like Kubernetes, Prometheus, Service Mesh, and Distributed Tracing. The engineer will focus on solving problems with simple and scalable automation, building open-source tools, and educating customers on best practices for operating applications in modern cloud-native infrastructure. The role requires working in the EST (Eastern Standard Time) shift to collaborate closely with US-based customers.

Requirements

  • Good understanding and work experience in AKS, Kubernetes, and EKS.
  • Able to manage multi region clusters for disaster recovery.
  • Good understanding of AWS stack.
  • Experience of production level in Kubernetes.
  • Comfortable coding/programming and can do so whenever required.
  • Worked with programmable infrastructure in some way - Built a CI/CD pipeline, Provisioned infrastructure programmatically or Provisioned monitoring and logging infrastructure for large sets of machines.
  • Love automating things, sometimes even what seems like you can’t automate.
  • Understand at least the basics of "high availability" or "resilient systems".
  • Love coaching people - about the 12-factor apps or the latest tool that reduced your time of doing a task by X times and so on.
  • Lead by example when it comes to technical work and community.
  • Understand the areas you have worked on very well but, are curious about many systems that you may not have worked on and want to fiddle with them.
  • Know that understanding applications and the runtime technologies gives a better perspective - you never looked at them as two different things.
  • Willingness to work in the EST (Eastern Standard Time) shift.

Responsibilities

  • Working with customers trying to transform their applications and adopt cloud-native technologies.
  • Solving problems with the simplest and scalable automation.
  • Building open source tools for problems that are common across customers and industry.
  • Hacking around open source projects, understanding their capabilities, limitations and applying the right tool for the right job.
  • Educating the customers - from their operations engineers to developers on scalable ways to build and operate applications in modern cloud-native infrastructure.
