About The Position

Barnes & Noble Education (BNED) is seeking a Sr. Windows Systems Administrator to lead the administration, optimization, and security of its Windows infrastructure across on-premises and remote environments. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability, performance, resilience, and availability of critical systems that support daily business operations. The administrator will be responsible for system provisioning, automation, monitoring, patch management, and security initiatives, ensuring compliance with standards and best practices. This position also serves as a senior technical resource, offering advanced troubleshooting, mentoring, and operational support to maintain a secure, scalable, and highly reliable technology environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous technical support and/or customer service experience.
  • Experience administering and supporting Active Directory, IIS, and Windows Server environments, including system configuration, backup and recovery, performance tuning, patch management, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience supporting Windows security practices, including PCI/SOX compliance, intrusion detection/prevention, filtering, and auditing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, and storage administration.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals and maintain professional working relationships across departments and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provision, configure, administer, and maintain Windows-based systems.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and overall system health.
  • Perform system patching, backup, recovery, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Implement and maintain system security controls and support compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Follow established change management processes and procedures.
  • Provide Tier 2 support and escalation assistance to the Help Desk team.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
