About The Position

Garelick Farms, Dairy Farmers of America, is hiring a Senior Wastewater Technician to provide operation and maintenance support for its wastewater treatment plant. The role requires full proficiency in wastewater treatment processes and activities, safe work practices, and compliance with safety, environmental, food safety, quality, sanitation, corporate, and regulatory requirements. The technician works with limited supervision, addresses routine and atypical issues using technical experience and judgment, helps determine approaches for new assignments, and serves as a resource and trainer for less-experienced colleagues. This is a second-shift position on a rotating schedule, Sunday through Saturday, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with two days off each week. Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Two to four years of wastewater-related experience with a wastewater system similar to the one onsite.
Water/Wastewater System Operator certification or license specific to location requirements, or the ability to obtain appropriate license(s) within 12 months where required by state regulations.
Solid knowledge of wastewater treatment systems.
General microbiological and chemistry skills.
General maintenance skills.
Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems.

Responsibilities

Inspect equipment and monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to assess load requirements and detect malfunctions.
Maintain chemical levels and adjust and disinfect water and other liquids.
Record operational data and meter and gauge readings on specified forms at required frequencies.
Perform COD, TSS, total-solids, and other analyses on daily samples; interpret results for operational trends and adjust operations based on collected data.
Resolve common problems and use technical experience, judgment, and precedents to analyze solutions to more complex issues.
Advise the supervisor of potential concerns and implement appropriate changes.
Assist with maintenance, repair, and lubrication of wastewater equipment using hand and power tools, and record parts used for preventive maintenance or repairs.
Work with vendors to align with best practices and ensure equipment is stored ready for use in the plant.
Request maintenance repair work through the appropriate system or process.
Monitor sludge dumpster levels when applicable and contact the appropriate personnel when an exchange is needed.
Accompany the supervisor and regulatory inspectors on facility inspections as requested and implement corrective actions.
Assist the supervisor with purchasing parts, materials, and chemicals.
Write, review, or update processes and documentation, including standard operating procedures, job hazard analyses, lockout/tagout procedures, and confined-space procedures.
Serve as the primary resource for management on issues when the supervisor is unavailable.
Communicate pertinent information to the shift supervisor at the end of the shift.
Identify continuous-improvement opportunities, communicate them to the supervisor, and implement appropriate changes using Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Leader Standard Work.
Attend required training, including GMP, HAACP, SQF, and safety training.
Follow DFA GMPs and work consistently with corporate and regulatory food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
