About The Position

The SVP of Accounting is responsible for leading the enterprise accounting function and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and control discipline of the organization's financial books and records. This role oversees the monthly close process, general ledger governance, accounting policy, reconciliations, accounts payable, fixed assets, expense administration, tax support, audit readiness, and accounting-related internal controls. The SVP partners closely with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Operations, and business leaders to ensure financial information is reliable, accounting practices are scalable, and the organization maintains strong fiscal discipline as it grows in size and complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related fields, required.
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting, controllership, audit, or financial institution finance leadership experience, with a proven track record of providing strategic oversight for accounting operations, financial controls, regulatory compliance, audit activities, and enterprise-wide financial reporting processes, required.
  • Significant leadership responsibility for month-end close, general ledger governance, accounting policy, reconciliations, internal controls, audit support, accounts payable, fixed assets, expense administration, and tax compliance oversight, required.
  • Experience in a complex financial institution, credit union, bank, regulated financial services company, or multi-entity environment preferred, required.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, accounting policy, financial reporting standards, reconciliation methodologies, and close governance.
  • Ability to analyze complex accounting matters, financial statement support, general ledger activity, reconciliation results, and supporting documentation.
  • Skill in developing, enforcing, and improving accounting policies, procedures, documentation standards, and internal control frameworks.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to financial reporting, tax compliance, audit standards, and accounting control expectations in a regulated financial institution environment.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate financial, operational, and control risk across diverse accounting functions.
  • Skill in collaborating with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Operations, and business leaders while maintaining appropriate accounting independence and control discipline.
  • Knowledge of accounting support requirements for merger, acquisition, integration, and complex transaction activity, including purchase accounting support and policy alignment.
  • Skill in modernizing accounting systems, workflows, automation, reconciliation tools, and close processes to improve scalability, speed, data quality, and control effectiveness.
  • Ability to communicate accounting decisions, findings, process updates, and control expectations clearly to executives, auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards to complex transactions, organizational changes, business combinations, and emerging accounting issues while ensuring compliance with applicable financial reporting requirements.
  • Skill in designing and maintaining scalable internal control structures, including segregation of duties, documentation standards, monitoring activities, and issue escalation processes to strengthen governance and compliance.
  • Ability to ensure accounting records, supporting schedules, reconciliations, and control evidence are maintained in a manner that supports external audits, regulatory examinations, and internal compliance reviews.
  • Skill in building leadership depth, developing accounting talent, succession planning, and creating a scalable accounting operating model that supports organizational growth and evolving business needs.
  • Certified Public Accountant, upon hire required, or equivalent senior-level accounting, controllership, financial institution, or audit leadership experience may be considered.

  • Certified Mgmt Accountant or additional accounting, finance, or management accounting credential, upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the enterprise accounting function, ensuring accurate, timely, and well-controlled completion of month-end close, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and accounting records.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, close governance, reconciliation standards, general ledger ownership, documentation expectations, and internal control frameworks.
  • Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, employee expense reimbursement administration, accounting records, and accounting support for operational activity.
  • Review and analyze complex accounting matters, financial statement support, reconciliation results, and accounting documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Lead audit readiness and external audit support, including preparation and review of audit schedules, accounting documentation, control evidence, and issue resolution.
  • Oversee tax compliance support, tax accounting coordination, and collaboration with external advisors, as appropriate.
  • Partner with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Operations, and business leaders to ensure accounting records support reliable financial reporting, forecasting, liquidity analysis, capital planning, and enterprise decision-making.
  • Lead accounting support for merger, acquisition, integration, and complex transaction activity, including purchase accounting support, accounting policy alignment, and post-close control processes.
  • Drive modernization of accounting systems, workflows, close processes, reconciliation tools, automation, and reporting support to improve scalability, efficiency, and control effectiveness.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting team, including talent development, succession planning, technical training, and clear accountability for accounting quality and timeliness.
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to Wings policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
