About The Position

AXIS Capital is seeking an Underwriter with a focus on Builder’s Risk (Project and Master) to join their U.S. Construction team. This role will support the growth and profitability of the Builder's Risk portfolio by underwriting new and renewal business, building broker and customer relationships, and developing technical expertise. The position can be based out of any of their Midwest or West Coast offices. The role involves continuing to develop Builder's Risk expertise, analyzing and qualifying opportunities based on the organization's appetite, and underwriting within the established governance framework. The underwriter will evaluate, underwrite, and negotiate new and renewal business within delegated authority and guidelines, while also developing and maintaining relationships with broker partners and customers to identify insurance needs and provide solutions. Support for business development efforts, management of underwriting responsibilities, participation in industry functions, and collaboration with colleagues are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • 3 - 10 years of Builder’s Risk, Property, or Commercial Insurance underwriting experience
  • Curiosity and desire to learn
  • Experience analyzing and underwriting a range of commercial property or Builder’s Risk exposures
  • Solid understanding of Builder's Risk coverage, exposure analysis, pricing principles, and marketplace dynamics
  • Able to analyze standard and moderately complex risks and communicate underwriting concepts or positions to audiences of varying experience
  • Able to independently manage routine underwriting responsibilities while collaborating effectively in a team setting
  • Capable of handling time constraints for quoting new and renewal business

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of both admitted (retail) and non-admitted / Excess & Surplus (wholesale) underwriting framework
  • Experience collaborating with brokers and supporting relationship development within an assigned market or territory
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Reasonably proficient with Microsoft Office applications
