About The Position

The Sr Transportation Manager is responsible for achieving all safety, service, and cost targets within the Transportation department. This role requires a strong safety mindset, leadership in developing managers and drivers, building high-performing teams, and ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with regulations. The position involves analyzing performance, troubleshooting delivery issues, and potentially assisting with labor relations in unionized facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in transportation/delivery supervision required.
  • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
  • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates/departments within the company.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets in the Transportation department.
  • Lead with a safety mindset to ensure associates, customers, and the public remain injury-free.
  • Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to create and maintain a safety-first culture.
  • Oversee and develop Transportation Managers through coaching, training, and problem resolution.
  • Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation personnel by addressing performance gaps and driving engagement and retention.
  • Build high-performing teams by reviewing staffing, monitoring hiring, and coaching for performance.
  • Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error attitude for accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot delivery problems, devising cost-effective and legal solutions.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with company, state, and federal DOT regulations.
  • Ensure optimum delivery reliability by developing efficient production flow processes and identifying improvement strategies.
  • Identify and stop waste, and improve processes for safety and efficiency.
  • Analyze daily performance measures, identify weaknesses, and recommend changes to achieve productivity objectives.
  • In union facilities, assist HR and VP Operations in interpreting collective bargaining agreements, administering discipline, settling grievances, and participating in arbitrations.
