Our Senior Trade Compliance Analyst is responsible for owning key elements of Life Fitness / Hammer Strength’s global import and export compliance program and serving as a subject matter expert across the business. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance, this individual contributor role makes classification and origin determinations, leads the company’s response to customs inquiries and audits, owns the duty drawback program, and identifies duty savings and risk mitigation opportunities across global trade operations. This role operates with significant autonomy and sound judgment on complex, ambiguous issues. It partners with sourcing, engineering, legal, and the business units as a trusted advisor, mentors junior team members, and strengthens the processes and controls that keep the company compliant with U.S. Customs (CBP), BIS, and international regulations. This is a hybrid position based out of our Global Support Center in Rosemont, IL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5–7 years of trade or customs compliance experience, with demonstrated ownership of determinations and audit responses.
  • Working command of 19 CFR, HTSUS, the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), the EAR, and OFAC sanctions programs.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and exercise judgment on complex, ambiguous issues.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze large data sets; experience with a an ERP (Oracle) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interface with auditors, CBP, brokers, and senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience preparing duty drawback claims and qualifying goods under USMCA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Make HTS / Schedule B and ECCN determinations, document the supporting rationale, and prepare binding ruling requests with CBP when classification is ambiguous.
  • Qualify goods under USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements, issue certifications, and own the annual country of origin and FTA solicitation project.
  • Serve as the classification and origin authority for EU, UK, and other regional brokers.
  • Analyze BOM data to support FTA qualification and manufacturing drawback.
  • Adjudicate denied party screening results, investigating and resolving potential matches, documenting the disposition, and escalating to legal when warranted.
  • Lead responses to CBP inquiries, post summary corrections, protests, prior disclosures, and Focused Assessments, serving as a direct point of contact with CBP and brokers.
  • Own broker management, including issuing broker instructions, auditing broker and AES filing accuracy and performance, and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Own the duty drawback program, preparing and reviewing claims, setting filing strategy, and maximizing recovery.
  • Maintain a compliant, audit ready record retention system that meets all government requirements.
  • Identify and pursue duty savings and risk mitigation opportunities, including FTA utilization, duty deferral, valuation, and tariff engineering inputs.
  • Monitor regulatory changes across CBP, BIS, OFAC, and Census / FTR, and assess and communicate business impact.
  • Design and deliver the import and export compliance training program.
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures and relevant sections of the compliance manual.
  • Lead trade compliance projects and process improvements, and review the work of and mentor junior analysts.
  • Prepare and present monthly trade compliance metrics and program reporting to leadership.
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
