Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Manufacturing, Engineering or Community College graduate technical and/or a certified apprenticeship in tool & die/ mold making or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years manufacturing experience in the automotive industry.
  • Familiar with metal fabricating, assembly processes and related tooling.
  • Strong communication skills verbal, written, and technical presentations, within multi-cultural environments.
  • Team-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated planning and system implementation ability.
  • Proficiency in related computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, VISI).
  • Ability to travel globally with a valid passport.
  • Travel required.
  • Knowledge of progressive dies, transfer dies, blank forming, tube forming, roll forming.
  • Capability and knowledge of design in tooling.
  • Knowledge of laser/mig tooling.
  • Advanced GD&T.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
  • Team-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated planning and system implementation ability.
  • Roll forming knowledge is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of fine blanking will be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage & support Structural & Mechansims Tooling Engineers on all tooling and tooling build timelines (Tool Tracker/TLDB) to ensure consistently high-quality components are produced on time and cost effectively for all North America Structural & Mechanisms Product Divisions.
  • Ensure the most up to date technologies are utilized to continuously improve our product, meeting our customer’s expectations and promote innovations, continuous improvements to all Structural Product divisions.
  • Have input into the short- and long-term strategic tooling plans.
  • Manage and lead Magna’s Center of Excellence (C.O.E.) to provide best practices in the metal forming section for all forming sections.
  • Maintain and improve documents on the C.O.E.
  • Responsible for new tooling/fixture buy off at vendors and will also assist production assembly tooling when required.
  • Participate & lead the design and costing activities in N.B.(New Buisness).
  • Analyze and approve tool strip layouts for optimization of material & forming simulations.
  • Support all S.P. divisions in North America.
  • Management of the tooling data base is required for all North America tools, this will include audits at suppliers and Magna divisions in North America.
  • Support Cam-Slide assembly tooling when required.
  • Ensure budgets and objectives are achieved and/or exceeded with respect to tooling.
  • Responsible for forecasting and budgeting related to tooling for engineering changes and New Buisnes.
  • Coordinates with other departments and facilities the implementation, development, and improvement of new and old programs tooling requirements.
  • Coordinates the fabrication of all required tooling and equipment to support old and new programs.
  • Coordinates and implements engineering changes on new and existing tooled programs.
  • Develop and maintains a tooling manual for best practices and new innovations.
  • Develop and manage a tooling tracker and reports out accordingly with the tooling engineer from S.P. divisions.
  • Manage Tooling Data base(TLDB) with Tooling engineers for accuracy.
  • Acts as technical contact for vendors on tooling issues.
  • Develops and maintains all tooling progress reports.
  • Coordinates FMEA on all new tooling.
  • Ensures company guidelines for part scrap are adhered to during tooling design process.
  • Reviews & approves tooling blank size for optimization on New Buisness.
  • Work daily with production quality issues pertaining to stampings, sub-assemblies & assembly tooling.
  • Ensure PPAP’s are achieved on time.
  • Approve and sign-off on tooling and gauges using the Die/check fixture Validation Check list (DVD).
  • Quote tooling and piece price internally by developing process and strip layouts.
  • Send RFQ’s to Purchasing and participate indecisions when sourcing.
  • Kick off tooling.
  • Negotiate with purchasing pricing with vendors.
  • Work together with engineers to run simulations to develop formable parts.
  • Follows and understanding the Customer Specific Requirements for Stellantis, Ford and GM when using the application of digitized mathematically based data by referring to the IAOB web site.
  • Customer Representative with responsibility and authority to ensure that customer requirements are addressed. This includes selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Adheres to all MAFACT Requirements.
  • Abide by all AODA and C-TPAT procedures that apply to the position.
  • Required to meet budgeted tool and piece price tool program tool timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
  • Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
  • Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organizations established objectives and targets utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations.
  • Establish clear goals for workplace health and safety.
  • Complete safety talks, safety meetings, and required training occur, as defined.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering at SP plants for assembly & weld tooling when required.
  • Support vendors/suppliers when required.
  • Support Maintenance with Continuous Improvement for assembly tooling.
  • Support Maintenance to develop & improve P.M.’s for all assembly tooling.
  • Work with purchasing on quoted tooling at release of new business & Engineering changes.
  • Work with Group Costing on New Business for optimization of tooling.
  • Work with Program Manager on all programs and provide input when required.
  • Approve and sign off on all metal forming tooling and gauges.
  • Mentor & deploy best practices at S.P. divisions.
  • Establish annual goals.
  • Must comply with all ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) systems and standards as it pertains to their work.
  • Perform audits at tooling suppliers for performance and compliance.
  • Embrace Industry Tooling innovations and develop new innovations in continuous improvement.
  • Conduct Center of Excellence (C.O.E.) meetings with Tooling Engineering in Structural products.
  • Manage C.O.E. – Metal Forming.
