About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The team supports all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. The role involves working on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. The candidate will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazon’s web services. Engineers work with leading-edge technologies, solve challenging problems, influence industry roadmaps, and develop new and unique solutions. As a member of the Server Hardware Engineering team, the candidate will own and lead the design and development of server products, utilizing a wide range of design and manufacturing partners. They will work closely with customers to understand technical needs and business goals, leveraging experience with server design and knowledge from various teams to architect solutions deployed at scale. The role involves working with an interdisciplinary team of component, firmware, test, qualification, and integration engineers, and leading design and manufacturing partners to bring servers to the data center. Post-launch, the candidate will oversee the fleet of servers developed, monitoring quality and customer requirement fulfillment. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position working with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. High standards are expected for oneself and colleagues, with a constant drive to improve product performance, quality, and cost. Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 7+ years of analytical, quantitative, communication, and presentations experience
  • Experience building and evaluating system-level technical design
  • Experience leading highly technical programs involving infrastructure, complex systems, systems engineering
  • Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience managing complex hardware systems and programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
  • Experience owning and driving complex server system NPIs such as compute, gpu (AI/ML), or storage servers
  • Extensive experience managing complex hardware systems and programs, building processes, complicated schedules with many dependencies, identifying risks, trade-offs, designing 2-way doors

Responsibilities

  • Manage large, complex New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, delivering critical solutions, significant improvements, new mechanisms, or deprecating systems that are no longer needed.
  • Successfully manage all stages of a program (from concept to launch).
  • Understand the architecture of the hardware systems owned.
  • Influence team technical priorities and business strategy through data-driven contributions.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs.
  • Foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus).
  • Partner successfully with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams.
  • Set a great example for program management practices.
  • Routinely and efficiently deliver the right things.
  • Define clear goals and objectives.
  • Drive crisp decisions in the program area about what projects move forward and in what priority order.
  • Proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of the team and stakeholders with plans for mitigation before they become roadblocks.
  • Act as a simplifier by judiciously adding, refining, and removing procedures.
  • Increase the productivity and effectiveness of the teams worked with by applying project management best practices.
