About The Position

This role involves designing, planning, and overseeing the implementation of voice, data, and video communication systems, including hardware like switches, routers, and servers, to meet campus or system-wide network requirements. The position requires customizing designs and processes for unique customer needs while adhering to ITS and industry standards. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving network issues across various environments and remote locations, collaborating with internal IT teams, external vendors, and executive management to gather requirements and complete projects. The role also entails participating in security procedure establishment to mitigate network intrusions, creating and updating network documentation, managing complex projects, coordinating outage notifications, conducting site surveys, and designing network interconnections. Initiating projects to ensure service availability and reliability is also a key aspect.

Requirements

  • Top Secret SCI w/ Maryland Polygraph Clearance Required
  • Knowledge of Arista, Aruba, Plexxi, F5 load balancers, and Dell networking devices.
  • Familiar with STE/STN requirements to meet STIG/Security mandates and the utilization of Nessus Security Center.
  • Familiar with tools for monitoring network performance such as CloudVision, MFNA (Microfocus network automation), and WhatsUp Gold

Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans & oversees the implementation of voice, data, & video communication cable and hardware, e.g., switches, routers, gateway or functional servers, to support requirements of the scope and scale consistent with campus or system wide networks.
  • Customize design, installation and processes to account for unique customer requirements within the context of overall ITS and industry standards and conventions.
  • Troubleshoots and performs corrective measures to resolve or avoid problems with voice, data or video networks within a range of environments across multiple remote locations, and including operational international links.
  • Works with senior IT peers or customer personnel, including executive management, in other departments or campus operations, external vendors, service providers or institutions, to collect requirements, complete projects, or resolve problems.
  • Participates in the establishment and enforcement of security procedures to mitigate or isolate the impact of network intrusions, attacks or other incidents from external resources.
  • Creates, modifies or updates network, process or customer documentation, including establishing standard procedures that may be followed by IT professionals.
  • Manage/Coordinates large and complex projects or tasks that may include integrating the work of other IT professional staff, contractors and suppliers.
  • Coordinates the notification of planned or unplanned outages working with both local and external organizations.
  • Conducts site surveys and collects customer requirements related to complex or unique network design, implementation and problem resolution efforts.
  • Designs and implements network interconnection and integration based on customer, carrier and backbone network requirements.
  • Initiates projects or work tasks based on customer requirements or as a situation may dictate to ensure availability and reliability of customer services.
