About The Position

The TAE Leader is a highly technical, customer-focused, and self-motivated professional providing expert technical support for GE Vernova Grid Automation Monitoring and Diagnostics customers. This role is responsible for building customer relationships and managing all activities from inception of a request to successful resolution. The TAE Leader guides customers through pre-sales decisions, supports post-sales issues, and mentors a team of Technical Application Engineers by leading through example.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in industrial and utility monitoring and diagnostics covering transformers, circuit breakers, related software applications, and device-to-system communications, including hands-on troubleshooting
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive demonstrated experience in substations and substation equipment
  • Experience with GE Vernova and third-party Monitoring and Diagnostics products
  • Knowledge of transformer and circuit breaker failure modes, including DGA diagnostics, bushing diagnostics, and partial discharge
  • Deep expertise in SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850) and communication topologies; knowledge of MQTT is a plus
  • Ability to engineer solutions addressing customer data integration and cybersecurity requirements
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of customer organizations, from field electricians to C-level executives
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to change and evolving task requirements
  • Collaborative team player who proactively shares ideas and takes initiative
  • Active involvement in IEEE, IEC, CIGRÉ, and other standards organizations
  • Fluency in English and French

Responsibilities

  • Act as expert consultant to guide customers in planning and developing technical solutions for their monitoring needs
  • Interpret transformer and circuit breaker specifications, single-line diagrams, customer best practices, and system integration needs, and convert these into product specifications
  • Coordinate with sales teams on customer calls, presentations, bid meetings, and site walk-throughs as needed
  • Lead technical development of proposals, ensuring compliance with customer specifications by collaborating with engineering, product, and proposal managers
  • Customize and present technical papers and presentations at conferences, to customers, and to internal stakeholders
  • Provide competitive intelligence and voice-of-customer feedback to product technology and service teams
  • Act as the primary link between customers and internal teams including services, marketing, engineering, and product development
  • Deliver product and application training to customers, sales, TAE teams, Customer Service, and Field Services
  • Lead customers through architecting, commissioning, and testing of new products, solutions, and pilot projects
  • Support customers in configuring and troubleshooting M&D product integration into their systems across various protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850)
  • Analyze monitoring equipment results and assist customers with recommended actions or settings modifications
  • Maintain knowledge of complementary GE Vernova Grid Automation product lines (Protection & Control, Industrial Communications, Services, Software) and serve as the link between customers and those business lines
  • Track issues discovered during demonstration, evaluation, and testing of products and pilot projects, and follow through with the Technology team to resolution
  • Influence customer technical specifications through direct engagement
  • Analyze large customer fleets of monitoring equipment and identify opportunities for upgrading obsolete products
  • Identify training opportunities and take ownership of self-development and team development
  • Exhibit strong leadership through adoption of the GE Vernova Ways
  • Lead by example, setting both technical and interpersonal standards for the team
  • Demonstrate empathy and strong interpersonal skills with colleagues at all levels
  • Provide constructive feedback — both positive and corrective — and take action when necessary
