About The Position

At HNTB, this role provides guidance and direction in an area of expertise and functional discipline, supporting the technical aspects of project development and delivery, including proposal development, scope implementation, and change management. The Sr Technical Advisor applies advanced engineering methods, techniques, and analyses to develop solutions, make recommendations, and resolve issues. The role ensures HNTB and industry design standards are applied consistently across projects of varying disciplines, sizes, and complexity. Working independently with internal project teams and external client counterparts, the advisor provides technical designs, plans, and specifications for complex projects and serves as a lead technical engineer and recognized expert on large, complex, or unusual projects.

The role also advises project leadership and clients, supports and mentors production staff, contributes technical expertise to proposals and marketing, coordinates with clients and teaming partners, and promotes technical consistency and best practices across disciplines. The position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Engineering and 11 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience.

• Utah Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent technical reviews, make recommendations, and provide technical guidance on complex or unusual engineering projects.
• Provide direction to resolve technical issues.
• Provide technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring and support to production staff.
• Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation for complex or unusual engineering projects within the discipline.
• Coordinate technical aspects with client counterparts and teaming partners at the local leadership level on complex or unusual engineering projects, within and across disciplines.
• Develop and advise on technical consistency within and across disciplines, processes, and projects, ensuring consistent application of standards and practices.
• Serve as lead technical engineer for large, complex, or unusual projects.
• Identify and communicate industry best practices, trends, and risks through presentations, articles, and white papers.
• Serve as a trusted client advisor and represent the firm on industry advisory committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
