About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment tax, franchise tax, and unclaimed property regulations by accurately preparing and timely filing required returns, reports and payments. The position is also responsible for preparing various tax returns, W-2 simulation and balancing, and contributing to other tax projects as needed. This position helps ensure Publix meets federal, state and local employment tax and franchise tax requirements, reducing the risk of significant penalties and interest levied on Publix. The role also mitigates financial and legal risk by ensuring the accurate and timely annual remittance of unclaimed checks to all 50 states annually. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA with concentration in Accounting or Finance OR 3 years’ relevant business experience
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment tax and franchise tax laws
  • Knowledge of state unclaimed property laws and compliance regulations
  • Knowledge of the Publix payroll process and the SAP HR and FI modules
  • Knowledge of tax research techniques and tax research software
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP HR & Financial modules, HRS Pro, Bloomberg Tax, Microsoft Excel, CCH AnswerConnec

Responsibilities

  • preparation of employment and franchise tax returns, payments, and reconciliations
  • processing unclaimed property reporting and remittance
  • Support additional tax projects as assigned by the Director of Tax and Senior Tax Manager
