About The Position

We’re looking for a Senior Tax Analyst who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment and is motivated by the complexity of working in tax at an international company. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong technical tax expertise, sound professional and practical judgment, and the ability to operate independently while partnering closely with internal teams and external advisors. As a member of the Vermilion corporate tax team, you will play a key role in advancing projects, ensuring compliance and optimizing processes. You’ll be trusted to take ownership of key tax files, provide analysis that supports business decisions and help ensure our tax function continues to meet increasing regulatory and organizational expectations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally including public accounting experience at the senior or manager level at a Big Four accounting firm (or equivalent industry experience with significant international tax exposure).
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA); completion or progress toward a tax specialization or in‑depth tax training.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax and deferred income taxes with experience in international tax, transfer pricing, or cross‑border matters considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex objectives while exercising sound professional judgment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, practical insights for non‑tax stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy, quality and deadlines.
  • The adaptability and curiosity to thrive in a complex international company operating in a continuously evolving regulatory and business environment.

Responsibilities

  • Help advance key tax projects in coordination and collaboration with the corporate tax team, our international affiliates, advisors and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare deferred income tax provisions for multiple international affiliates; requires achieving an understanding of multiple tax and accounting regimes.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of Canadian income tax returns, including oversight of compliance schedules and key filing deadlines.
  • Support and manage tax audits and inquiries, working effectively with external advisors and tax authorities.
  • Own, maintain and improve key tax models, including the global tax forecast and deferred tax model ensuring changes in accounting standards, tax legislation and the business are appropriately reflected.
  • Prepare independently researched tax analyses, reconciliations and working papers to support reporting, compliance and planning activities.
  • Help ensure critical tax documentation (such as transfer pricing and surplus calculations) are kept current to enable timely business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, controls and workflows, supporting continuous improvement within the tax function.
  • Contribute to high-value and complex projects including in relation to acquisition structuring and financing.
