About The Position

The Sr Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing and completing tax returns and reports for state, local, property, sales, and other tax liabilities, ensuring all required deadlines are met. This role requires maintaining current knowledge of all tax laws affecting the company, reviewing proposals for tax implications, and recommending actions that align with business plans while managing tax liability. The position also involves participation in tax audits, handling tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, providing oversight on unclaimed property reporting and escheatment, and assisting with special projects to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or similar field is required.
  • 3+ years accounting experience with multi-state sales and property tax filing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interface well with internal departments and outside customers.
  • Detail-oriented, strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in key tools such as Excel, Word, SAP, Hyperion, Vertex O Series, Vertex Returns and Diagnostax.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA/CPA/CMI is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and completes tax returns and reports for state, local, property, sales and other tax liabilities.
  • Meets all required deadlines for tax filings.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all tax laws affecting the company.
  • Reviews proposals for tax implications and recommends actions that meet business plans while managing tax liability.
  • Participates in tax audits.
  • Involved with tax implications of mergers and acquisitions or other structuring projects.
  • Provides oversight on unclaimed property reporting and escheatment.
  • Assists with special projects and unique assignments to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Consistently provides proven, formal mentorship.

  • Is viewed as an established SME and/or established as specialist.
  • Understands the “big picture” view and how it aligns to overall company strategy.
  • Responsible for the preparation and completion of tax returns/processes within required deadlines for all US states and Canadian federal and provincial taxes.
  • Gathers and prepares information required for various components of tax reporting, state and local tax returns for sales/use/property/escheat/miscellaneous taxes.
  • Drives the preparation and analysis of various tax-related projects, such as process improvements and automation, and ERP system implementation/updates.
  • Assists with maintenance of Vertex and Diagnostax tax systems.
  • Performs research and interprets tax laws and/or tax accounting rules and regulations applicable to new businesses, transactions, or new product offerings.
  • Participates in tax audits, as well as financial statement audits of tax-related items.
  • Assists with tax compliance testing and reporting.
  • Performs account reconciliations and tax journal entries.
  • Responsible for registering the company for all applicable sales/use/property/miscellaneous taxes.
  • Ensures compliance with state tax laws for sales, personal property, and unclaimed taxes.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Ability to work onsite in an office environment with limited remote work alternatives, consistent with applicable law.
