About The Position

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for software enhancements and new products. This role involves developing software for operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. The engineer will determine hardware compatibility and may influence hardware design. The candidate will contribute to technical components of HPE products, solutions, or services, applying advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and acting as a subject matter expert. They will provide expertise and partnership to functional and technical project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives, exercising significant independent judgment and potentially providing team leadership and mentoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Strong proficiency in C and experience developing embedded software on Linux.
• Experience with system‑level design, architectural decision‑making, and feature ownership.
• Proven ability to lead technically while remaining hands‑on.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• 10+ year of experience in software development experience (strongly desired).
• Networking experience in wired networking or switch platforms.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
• Ability to effectively use AI-assisted development tools to improve software design, coding efficiency, debugging, testing, and overall engineering productivity.
• Experience leveraging AI technologies to create, automate, or enhance software development workflows, tools, and processes while maintaining high standards of code quality and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own a feature area end‑to‑end, including architecture, design, implementation, and delivery.
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded software using C on Linux‑based systems; Python for tooling and testing as needed.
• Perform architectural design, system planning, and feature‑level ownership aligned with overall product architecture.
• Break down work into tasks, coordinate execution, and lead feature delivery across the team.
• Conduct code reviews, ensure software quality, and mentor junior engineers.
• Write and execute test plans; debug integration issues and drive solutions.
• Collaborate with management and cross‑functional teams to communicate design status and resolve issues.
