Sr Systems Engineer - Tennessee
About The Position
Motorola Solutions is a world leader in professional mobile communications systems, seeking a Sr Systems Engineer to join their Systems Engineering group. This role focuses on the design and implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers, often utilizing the APCO 25 standard and incorporating LTE infrastructure for data services. The company emphasizes building long-term customer relationships and trust, with projects varying significantly in scope. The team operates in a high-performance culture with demanding timelines and high customer expectations. This position is located in T4W and covers projects across Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline and 5+ years of engineering or technical experience OR 7 years of engineering or technical experience.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely.
- Radio Frequency Engineering principles.
- Land / Mobile Radio Engineering principles.
- RFDS principles to include antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection systems.
- P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods.
- Servers and related systems to include: VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems.
- Construction of remote communication sites to include: site selection, grounding, compound development, tower and shelter requirements.
- Fortinet and Juniper firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers, Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, HP/Aruba and Juniper switches.
- Remote access using SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP.
- Knowledge with point-to-point Microwave systems, Microwave RF & Network design.
- FCC licensing and frequency search.
- Software applications integration, Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, computer operating systems, and the OSI model.
- Networking protocols and devices including RSVP-TE, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT, routers, switches, and stateful packet firewalls.
- Knowledge of physical layer such as fiber, copper, and microwave.
- Knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS).
- Works collaboratively and builds relationships with other colleagues, customers, and third party service professionals.
- Self-motivated, good written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture.
- Certifications a plus through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical aspects of assigned projects until system acceptance, working with a field team of Project Management, Systems Engineers, System Technologists, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers.
- Design and implement the radio network, including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, and WAN and CEN networks.
- Engage in high-level customer and consultant interaction, including design reviews, customer-witnessed staging and acceptance testing, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Perform system buildout, configuration, and acceptance testing in both lab staging and field environments.
- Conduct radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation.
- Manage radio system licensing (FCC/Industry).
- Prepare system fleet maps, encryption, and radio programming templates.
- Complete system documentation.
- Execute live system cutovers and upgrades.
