About The Position

Tomorrow.io is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to aid the development, integration, and verification of an integrated satellite vehicle for its weather observation constellation. The role translates mission objectives into technical requirements, develops verification and validation plans, manages system risks, and coordinates across multidisciplinary teams to support high reliability and data quality. The engineer will evaluate and plan the on-orbit operation and performance of weather-sensing payloads, develop payload architecture and technical designs from concept through launch and operations, coordinate interfaces with the spacecraft bus and partner teams, and plan and carry out payload integration and testing. The role also includes modeling payload and mission performance, conducting trade studies, supporting trajectory and constellation planning, and investigating technical risks and operational anomalies. The position works with engineers, scientists, partners, and leadership in a collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on technical excellence and atmospheric sensing. The role requires travel of 15–20% and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds while traveling.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years developing, integrating, and testing complex space systems, such as satellite payloads or spacecraft.
  • Strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, payload integration, and performance modeling.
  • Experience with system architecture, requirements and interfaces, verification planning, and integrated testing.
  • Familiarity with MBSE or similar systems engineering methods.
  • Experience conducting system trade studies and managing technical and program risks.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics, LEO Earth observation constellations, and mission analysis tools such as STK, GMAT, or Orekit.
  • Ability to work across engineering and science teams and explain technical topics clearly to varied audiences.
  • Sound engineering judgment and adaptability in fast-moving development environments.
  • Mission-level perspective, integrity, accountability, transparency, and willingness to learn from successes and setbacks.
  • Ability to travel 15–20%.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds while traveling.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and plan how weather-sensing payloads operate, interact, and perform on orbit.
  • Develop payload architecture and technical designs from concept through launch and operations.
  • Define and manage payload requirements, verification plans, and traceability.
  • Coordinate payload interfaces with the spacecraft bus and partner teams.
  • Plan and carry out payload integration and testing; document results and track technical performance.
  • Model payload and mission performance, conduct trade studies, and support trajectory and constellation planning using Ansys STK.
  • Identify and address technical risks; investigate operational anomalies and determine root causes.
  • Work with engineers, scientists, partners, and leadership to resolve technical issues and improve engineering quality.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health benefits.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Other benefits (not specified).
  • Relocation assistance may be offered or available for certain roles.
