Sr. Systems and Cloud Engineer

About The Position

The Senior Systems & Cloud Engineer designs, builds, and operates primarily across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while supporting the on-premises systems that connect to them. This is a hands-on, cloud-focused role for an engineer who brings strong system-engineering fundamentals — Windows, Linux, networking, and identity — and applies them to building reliable, well-architected cloud environments. Terraform is central to how the role works: infrastructure is defined as reusable, version-controlled configurations rather than provisioned by hand. The ideal candidate pairs cloud engineering with a solid infrastructure background, bringing consistency, repeatability, and reliability to everything we run. This role will likely spend 50% of the time working within our Azure environment, 20% on-premises technologies, 20% on GCP and remainder time on other internal technologies. A passion for automation and process improvement is key.

Requirements

  • Hands-on Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience, turning complex environments into clean, repeatable, version-controlled builds.
  • Experience using PowerShell and Bash to automate manual work.
  • Confident administering Windows Server and Linux environments and keeping critical systems secure, stable, and ready for what’s next.
  • Understanding of virtualization, including Nutanix, and how to keep hosts, clusters, capacity, and performance running smoothly.
  • Experience building in Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) across compute, storage, networking, identity, and serverless patterns — with an eye toward cloud environments that scale with the business.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services.
  • Ability to connect the dots across switching, VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPN, and hybrid connectivity between the data center and the cloud.
  • Familiarity with storage, backup, and disaster recovery, including SAN/NAS and backup tooling.
  • Experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Python to make infrastructure faster, safer, and easier to support.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with patch management, monitoring, and systems hardening.
  • Troubleshooting with curiosity and a root-cause mindset.
  • Clear communication in writing and conversation, translating technical complexity into practical next steps.
  • Strong documentation and diagramming skills.
  • Ability to balance planned projects, urgent incidents, and everything in between with strong time management and prioritization.
  • Enjoyment in sharing knowledge and raising the technical bar for the people around you.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5+ years in systems engineering / infrastructure administration (Windows, Linux, virtualization)
  • 5+ years building infrastructure in Azure and/or GCP
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
  • Solid networking, storage, and Active Directory fundamentals
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator and/or Google Associate Cloud Engineer certification
